Every 4th Grader gets their own mentor!

"We provide a mentor for EVERY 4th grader in the economically disadvantaged schools we serve. Our volunteers serve together once a month for 90 minutes and mentor the 4th graders in leadership. They express love and care and provide the students with a positive relationship with a dependable adult".

After School Program

Coordinator: Mrs. Patino

Days: Monday - Thursday

Hours: 3:20 - 5:30

Fort Worth After School Program's goals include increasing educational competence, physical and social development. At each site, children receive a snack and an opportunity to complete their homework with program staff assistance. Schools also offer programming in at least 3 of 5 other areas: (1) academic enrichment/tutoring/ homework help, (2) recreation/youth development, (3) fine arts, (4) service learning/ community service, and (5) technology tools/ skills.

Battle of the Books

What is the Battle of the Books?

Battle of the Books is an optional reading incentive program for grades 3-5. Those who participate join grade level teams, read books from a book list, and answer trivia questions. Our teams will compete with other FWISD campuses.

Students who participate will be required to:

● Read 6+ book from a book list

● Read and return books in a timely manner

● Discuss books with teams during lunch bunch

● Work together to answer questions

Good News Club

Here at Contreras Elementary, we have an after-school club called "Good News Club." It belongs to the "Child Evangelism Fellowship" in which trained teachers meet with children from fourth and fifth grade.

Synopsis: A teacher presents an exciting Bible lesson using colorful materials. It also includes songs, review games and other activities focused on the lesson.

Leaders: sponsored by a group from Triumph Baptist church.

Who: This school year we have k-5 students who can attend with a signed permission slip from their parents.

Reading Partners

"Reading Partners is a national nonprofit that mobilizes communities to provide students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by fourth grade. We know that reading is the foundation for all future learning. The ability to read transforms lives and empowers children and communities to reach their full potential. Research shows that students who read at grade level by fourth grade have a greater opportunity to succeed in school and beyond. That’s why we partner with under-resourced schools and engage volunteer reading partners to work one-on-one with students who struggle with reading. Our volunteers provide hour-long tutoring sessions to students— following a structured, evidence-based curriculum developed with an expert team of curriculum advisors. Our program model works and is backed by evidence-based research which proves that our students make significant gains in reading."
